He Started Emptying His Closet — And It Wasn’t Because He Was Moving

One Reddit user shared an unusual progress photo: a closet with suddenly too much empty space and a bed covered in clothes that no longer fit.

The progress photo wasn't a picture of him

It was a picture of his closet.

A Reddit user recently shared an unusual milestone from his weight-loss journey: he had finally started clearing out clothes that no longer fit.

Instead of posting a traditional before-and-after photo, he showed the empty space left behind in his closet — and the pile of clothing headed for donation.

His old clothes told the story

According to his post, he had previously worn pants around a 38-inch waist, sometimes approaching a 40.

Over time, he moved through size 36 and into size 34 — which he said had already become a little big.

His shirts changed too.

He described previously needing an XL in some brands. Now, he said, he comfortably wears a Medium and has even started thinking about what might fit when he reaches his goal.

Some of the clothes had never even been worn

Among the clothes he pulled out were four pairs of slacks he'd bought roughly two years earlier.

The tags were still attached.

Now, instead of finally getting to wear them, he said they're going to charity because they no longer fit.

It's an unusual reminder that progress isn't always something people first notice by looking at a number on a scale.

Sometimes it's an empty section of a closet.

Sometimes it's a belt.

Sometimes it's realizing the clothes you were waiting to fit into have become too big.

He says he's getting close to his goal

The Reddit poster estimated that he'd lost roughly six inches from his waist and said he was about 10–15 pounds away from his goal weight at the time of his post.

He said he's now allowing himself to start buying clothes that actually fit as he approaches the end of his journey.

His experience is personal to him and shouldn't be interpreted as a typical or expected result for someone else.
